1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Smart Byte or any website operated by Transaction Science, Inc. ("Transaction Science," "we," "us," or "our"), including byte.transaction.science, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use our services.

2. Description of Services

Smart Byte is an open protocol specification and a set of commercial services operated by Transaction Science, Inc. The protocol — the smart byte schema, its consensus mechanism, and its conformance specification — is published under a permissive license and may be implemented by anyone. Transaction Science separately offers managed cluster operation, issuer tooling, cross-cluster gateways, a conformance suite, and registry services. Use of those services is governed by separate service agreements.

3. Intellectual Property

The Smart Byte specification text and conformance vectors are published under their stated open licenses. The reference implementation is published under its stated open-source license. All other content, software, designs, and logos on this website are the property of Transaction Science, Inc. and are protected by United States and international copyright, trademark, and intellectual property laws.

4. Protocol Disclaimer

The smart byte is a carrier for application-defined cargo. Transaction Science does not issue, custody, or guarantee any cargo carried on the substrate. Cargo-bytes representing financial instruments, energy, compute, or any other resource are the responsibility of their issuers. Participating in or operating on the substrate involves technical and operational risk. Nothing on this website is financial, legal, or investment advice.

5. Use Restrictions

You agree not to:

• Use any automated system to access our services beyond reasonable usage
• Attempt to reverse-engineer or disassemble any non-public software
• Use our services for any illegal purpose, or to issue cargo you are not authorized to issue
• Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of our services or any cluster
• Provide false or misleading information during registration or attestation

6. Conformance and Implementation

Anyone may implement the smart byte. An implementation is "conformant" only if it passes the published conformance vectors. Transaction Science makes no warranty regarding third-party implementations and does not certify them except through the published conformance suite.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

Our services are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Transaction Science, Inc. shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from use of our services.

9. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict of law provisions.
